Spoiler: most of the time there are no clear signs your septic tank requires maintenance. You’ll typically see the signs below when your tank is overdue for maintenance. They include:
- Surfacing liquids over the top of the tank or over the Drainfield area.
- Backup/overflow out of a cleanout (PVC pipe between the house and the tank).*
- Backup in the house.*
*Could be plumbing related.
We and the TCEQ recommend pumping on the following schedules in order to avoid messy, expensive issues.
Still not sure if your tank needs to be cleaned? If it’s been 3-5 years since your last maintenance, now is usually the time. At a minimum, we advise getting it checked to make sure everything is running as it should. We are happy to help!
