Don’t put these items in your system:
- Septic system additives
- Harsh chemicals
- Cigarette butts
- Baby wipes
- Disinfecting wipes
- Make up remover wipes
- Feminine products
- Q tips
- Dental floss
- Contraceptives
- Medicine
- Tobacco Products
A septic system is designed to handle normal household usage. It’s not be used as a trash can. Remember: “flushable” does not equal “septic safe”!
- Pump your tank every 3-5 years. Infrequent tank pumping affects the long-term workability and can also allow root intrusion and corrosion to occur in the tank.
- Conserve water. Avoid large surges of water usage, dripping faucets, running commodes, and malfunctioning water softeners.
- Don’t drive over any part of your system.
- Don’t build over any part of your system.
- Don’t use the garbage disposal excessively or dump cooking grease down the drain.
