The #1 Cause of Septic System Failure

Posted on

A failed septic tank.

What’s the #1 cause of septic system failure? Ignoring your system!

With the common mentality of “out of sight, out of mind”, most septic systems are ignored. And yet it’s one of the household functions that you use every day! Here are four ways to stop ignoring your septic system.

  1. Monitor what goes down your drains and commodes. Only toilet paper and wastewater should enter the septic system; keep everything else out.
  2. Watch for excessive water entering your system: over usage, dripping faucets, running commodes, etc.
  3. Have your septic tank cleaned every 3-5 years. This removes the solids from the tank so they don’t flow to your drain field and cause the pipes to clog with sludge – once that occurs, a new system may be required.
  4. Don’t build or drive anything over your tank or drain field.

Small changes can go a long way in prolonging the life of your system. Don’t ignore your system another day!

If you haven’t had your tank cleaned in the past 3-5 years, call us today for a free quote and we’ll help get you on your way to a more healthy septic system!
