Some companies provide a turn-key price while others pricing a-la-carte. Here are a few ways you may be able to save money on your next septic tank cleaning.

Pump your tank every 3-5 years. The longer you wait, the more sludge will build-up, which in turn can make the pumping take longer in which you end up paying for extra labor.
Find your tank. While some tanks are easy to locate, others can take several hours to even for experienced pumpers. It is ultimately the homeowner’s responsibility to know where the tank is. Most septic

companies will either charge a locating fee or labor charges if the tank is hard to find.
Expose the lid(s). If the tank is buried deeper than normal or has a lot of rock backfilled over it, there may be extra labor involved for digging. Two-compartment tanks will need to be pumped from both lids.
When scheduling your septic tank cleaning, always be sure to ask if there are extra charges for extra labor due to heavy sludge, locating or digging. Some companies give you their price-per-gallon but leave out all the other charges that will be added upon their arrival.
