How to Keep Your Septic System Running Happily During the Summer Heat

Posted on

Who says you can’t enjoy your summer and your septic system at the same time? Here are a few quick tips to help your septic system make it through the summer months!

1. Do not allow your pool to drain into your septic system.

This will add tons of water to the system and can cause the system to flood out.

2. Be careful of over usage during parties.

Too much water entering the system at one time can also cause the system to flood out. Pumping your tank just before the party can help.

3. Caution guests about flushing items other than toilet paper.

Only toilet paper and waste should enter your septic system, even if an item says it’s flushable. This can cause blockages in the plumbing and can affect your septic tank. Some of our customers make or buy cute signs to place in their bathroom to help their guests know how to treat their septic system well.

4. Do not allow heavy equipment or vehicles over or on top of your septic system.

If you are having a party, do not use your drainfield area a parking lot (or any part of your system). If you are having a pool, landscaping or sprinklers installed, do not allow driving over any portion of your septic system.
